After a long and dark winter, you will probably be welcoming spring like a breath of fresh air. But there is a downside. The longer days and sunshine spotlight all of the flaws around your house. There are dead plants in your yard, your gutters are full of debris and you have dirty and possibly damaged siding on your house.
Spring is just around the corner and it is time to start thinking about what needs to be done around your house.
Being a homeowner isn’t always a walk in the park. As soon as you complete one project, something else needs to be done. You can never finish that to-do list. Which is why you need to get a jump on your spring maintenance.
William Raveis Real Estate, your real estate agent in Bath, offers this handy spring maintenance checklist.
Clean the Gutters
You may have cleaned your gutters last fall, but they do need to be cleaned again this spring. Your gutters should be cleaned at least twice a year. Dirty gutters get clogged, which leads to pools of water, which can lead to damage to your home. You don’t want that to happen.
Check the Roof
Since you are on the roof cleaning your gutters, you might as well check for damage. Check to see if you have damaged or missing shingles and look for other signs of roof damage.
Spring is the time of year that you want to trim the trees and shrubs on your property. You want to get a jump on this as soon as you can before the leaves fill out and make the task even more difficult.
Not all spring maintenance happens outside. This is a good time to check your smoke and CO detectors and replace batteries as necessary. If any of your detectors are 10 years old, they should be replaced as soon as possible.
Clean the Grill
Your grill doesn’t get the workout it gets in the summer, but it is probably full of dirt and debris and could use a good cleaning.
Clean the Dryer Vent
A clogged dryer vent can pose a fire risk. Disconnect the dryer vent and use a vent brush to clear away the debris. You then need to go outside and check the vent cover to ensure it is properly functioning.
Clean Your Siding
Improve the overall look of your house and increase curb appeal by cleaning the siding on your house. While you are cleaning your siding, check for any damage that may have occurred over the winter.
Vacuum Under the Refrigerator
Pull your refrigerator out and take a look underneath, you are in for a gross surprise. It will be a dirty, dusty mess under there. While you are at it, go ahead and clean the coil on your refrigerator as it is dirty as well.
HVAC and kitchen hood filters need to be cleaned or replaced.
